Join us on May 14th at 6 O'clock at O'Connell's for the first dinner of our 6 part Refugee Dinner With Danger series!

I teamed up with Journey's End Refugee Services for this event, and your total ticket price (minus the cost of ingredients that I can't get donated), will benefit them and help in their settlement efforts. Our meal for this evening will be prepared by an Eritrean refugee. We will be enjoying Eritrean and Ethiopian delights!!

This event is going to be held at O'Connell's American Bistro, and I would like to thank them for opening up their restaurant to us for this great event! Tickets for A Refugee Dinner With Danger start at $40, but you will have the option to pay more if you like. At the dinner, we will be able to take your info, and provide you with a receipt for the excess paid. There will be a cash bar available during the event.

The dates for this years Aroma Farm Dinners at the Oles Farm has been set! June 23rd, Aug 11th, Sep 8th, and Oct 6th are all open for reservations. Transportation for all events will leave from both Aroma locations (Buffalo and Williamsville) at 2pm (sharp!) with drop-off back at Aroma by 9pm. Included for this years dinners are: Transportation, private wine tasting, a walk through the farmers field with Dan Oles and the Oles family, a to-go bag of Oles Farm veggies, multi-course dinner with international wines and local craft beer, live music, tax, gratuity, and a few extras! 01/25/2012 - Food Porn: Ruzzine's Rock Bottom Eatery

Before I even stepped foot into Ruzzine's I had heard a lot of praise of their hamburger from a lot of people including some pretty serious foodies whose opinion I highly value. I had also heard from a couple people that the location was definitely lacking and some even used the word "dive". After heading there for lunch a week ago I was excited to find that the burgers are in fact really that great and they might be the best in Buffalo. The location however is not as dive-y as their reputation may suggest.

Once you walk past the bar, you will immediately feel like you are in someone's home. This is because Ruzzine's is essentially a restaurant built into an old house, no there's not wallpaper or family photos on the walls but they haven't torn down that many walls, so there isn't a large open dining room (instead a few smaller rooms) and you end up feeling like your sitting in someone's living room. All that being said, when I'm looking to order a good burger I could care less about the atmosphere.

Ruzzine's menu is actually quite impressive, with a large selection of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and even steak and seafood dinner entrees. That said, I've never heard any praise for anything on their menu besides their Burger ($7) so that's what I went there for and it was the only thing I tried. Simply put, the burger was great; it wasn't gigantic, just 7oz. (although they also offer a 12oz. size) and wasn't made out of any type of crazy gourmet beef (they hand form the burgers with 80/20 ground beef). They cook them on a grill which gives the meat a great smokey flavor and makes the "crust" of the burger crispy and gives it a wonderful charred flavor that was a breath of fresh air considering how many fried burgers we've had recently. I immediately had flashbacks from cook outs from the summer.

When I got to the restaurant (on the corner of NF Blvd and Sheridan) the place looked promising. In my experience, Mexican places with old disgusting buildings and broken down old signs have by far the best food.

Walking in it was what I fully expected, a very stereotypical decorated Mexican place with bright red and green colors everywhere. While we were taking a look at the menu, the server brought out some complementary chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were definitely homemade and both were tasty. The salsa was a little smooth for my taste but my roommate found it perfect, seeing he generally complains salsa and sauces are way too chunky. We both thought the salsa was a bit mild but nothing a few dashes of the hot sauce on the table couldnâ��t cure. (Hot sauce side note: Every table had two, both Habanero sauces, both very hot and tasty, yet one was green and one was red. If anyone can ever tell a difference between the two, let me know because I couldnâ��t taste the difference for the life of me).

We both eventually decided on one of the lunch specials, considering thereâ��s 21 to choose from, it wasnâ��t too difficult of a task. The lunch specials are all very reasonably priced (between 4 and 7 dollars) and all looked to be of extremely sufficient size. I went with lunch special #1 which was a chile relleno, a taco, beans, and a guacamole salad. My roommate went with special #18 which was a burrito with a side of rice.

There will be a fundraiser held Thursday, November 11^th 2010 at 800 Maple Restaurant; 800 Maple Rd. Williamsville, NY 14221 from 6:00pm-10:00pm. All proceeds will be donated to help support the Amherst Youth Foundation, a safe and positive place for children to go for learning, socializing, and activities, helping them become empowered, and succeed.

There will be live music, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and drink specials. This event is sponsored by AmherstNightOut.com a new website dedicated to Amherst, a One-Stop-Shop for dining, entertainment, & more…supporting the local business owner, and the community!
